Simulate World, a talk at BIL

Fifteen minutes on simulate.world: putting the models that planners and governments use into the hands of the people a decision lands on, so a community can run its watershed, zoning or drought forward in time and reject the worst ideas before living through them. Weather forecasting is the proof it can be done.

The talk follows the simulate.world essay, written in 2015 and still up: our world from space, the mixed messages of the media, the new civic superpowers, existential threats, and then the proposal itself, civic digital models with real data and real policy, with the California drought and the Delta smelt as worked examples.

One correction from the speaker: in the wolves section I say Yosemite and mean Yellowstone.
